I have always been fascinated by the concept that time slows down as we travel faster and faster. This is called time dilation and was also featured in the movie Interstellar. However, I never really understood it exactly.
Einstein described this in his Special Theory of Relativity. It’s all complicated maths that will always go over my head. So, I searched for videos that could explain the concept of special relativity and time dilation. I watched a few but many were still confusing.
Then, I found a video by this guy called Vinit Masram. His video with simple animations explains Einstein’s concepts like it was for babies. I now understand the basics of the concept.
The perfect 1 minute in the video is from 3:30 to 4:30 which clearly illustrates how time slows down as you travel faster and faster. You can see that when travelling at (or close) to the speed of light, the photon takes more time to bounce off the mirrors. But since the speed of the photon (light) is always constant, the only thing that can change is time. Therefore, it is time that has slowed down.
Watch the video to fully understand what I am saying and then let me know what you felt.
